Responsibility — Atlas sheet 05
Lower-impact claims, accounted for.
Our premise is that fermentation-derived materials should earn their environmental credentials — with modelled impacts published, assumptions declared, and governance structures that keep the work honest.
Framework
Four commitments, published in practice.
Environmental accounting
Every process and product claim is backed by a life-cycle model with declared scope, system boundaries and assumptions. Models are published as open datasets so they can be inspected, not just cited.
- Life-cycle models published for each material grade
- System boundaries and allocation rules declared
- Independent methodological review planned from 2026
Material stewardship
Materials are designed for circularity: defined composition, documented additives, and recovery routes considered before a grade is released. Waste streams from the fermentation hall are quantified per batch.
- Defined composition and additive disclosure
- Recovery and end-of-life routes assessed per grade
- Per-batch waste and water accounting
Governance of biology
An independent scientific advisory board reviews strain design and containment practices. Synthetic biology work follows published biosafety frameworks and is documented in our biosecurity register.
- Independent scientific advisory board
- Published biosafety and containment framework
- Contained-use operations, no environmental release
Community & people
Science should stay legible to the communities around it. We run open-lab days, host school laboratory visits, and publish plain-language summaries of every major programme update.
- Open-lab days and school programmes in Norrköping
- Plain-language summaries with every release
- Paid internships for local STEM students
Reported metrics
Transparency register, 2025 edition.
Company-reported figures with declared scope. Where a number is modelled rather than measured, the model is published alongside it. Nothing on this page is third-party audited — that review begins in 2026.
| Indicator | Reported value | Scope & note |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 & 2 emissions | 412 t CO₂e (FY2024) | Fermentation Hall, offices and vehicles; electricity residual mix |
| Water withdrawal | 1.9 ML (FY2024) | Process + cooling; recirculation rate 61% |
| Published life-cycle datasets | 23 | Open protocols, raw records, model files |
| Independent review | 2 reviews planned | Methodology review scheduled from 2026 |
| Animal testing | 0 | Fermentation platform is animal-free by design |
| Waste recovery rate | 74% | Solids to anaerobic digestion; measured per batch |
| Board independence | 5 of 8 | Non-executive members incl. scientific advisory chair |
Reporting period: calendar year 2024, published June 2025. All figures are fictional demonstration data.
Question a number.
Every figure maps to a protocol or dataset. If you spot an assumption you would like interrogated, our impact team keeps a public question register.
